Make a Wish for Brittany

Though I'm still getting the main content of my blog underway, I received a notecard today through the group for {Scene} that I felt was worth sharing. The content of the card, as written by I'm assuming Mıκı Jαмεƨ (mikhayla13), was as follows:

Second life is an amazing place, you connect and build relationships all over the world despite the physical restrictions of distance, Some of these relationships are life long and reach way beyond the world inside the computer in which they started.

I have made these kind of connections and in particular with one woman and her family. She’s a fellow designer in sl but more than that she is one of my best friends and i even go so far as to call her sister because that is what she is. We are there for one another any time of day and night, no matter what is happening whether it is to laugh at something really dumb or cry at something sad. Lately it has been for far to much sadness. You see she has a daughter, a beautiful, vibrant young woman by the name of Brittany, a name and voice I have heard many times when sitting on skype with her mom. The sadness in our voices at the minute is born from the fact Brittany is sick, seriously so but with the determination strength and fighting spirit that she can only have gotten from her mom she is determined to fight and get well again. Brittany’s medical costs will be phenomenal and have a huge impact of her and her family. Friends and family of Brittany and her mom are doing what we can to help by raising funds in sl and in the real world to help this beautiful girl win her battle. I’m not going to witter on cos frankly i don’t want to cry right now. I’ll let her mom explain in her own words that I have taken from her Giveforward page

“I am posting this fundraiser for my daughter Brittany, who just turned 18, for help in her care. She is a senior in high school. However, Brittany has been sick for the past couple months, throwing up, horribly short of breath and a large weight loss. Doctors kept telling us it was first a viral infection, then it was pneumonia, then an ultrasound that results showed it was renal cysts and her gall bladder. She was put on 3 different antibiotics and nothing seemed to be getting better. We were persistent with the doctors, saying that it was more then what they’re treating her for. A group of girls at school even took it as far as bullying her and calling her fat with all the fluid her body had been collecting. She continued to feel worse and things spun outta control. She not only felt as if she was ‘dieing’, in her own words, but was also becoming severely depressed. Finally, a doctor listened to us. He pushed for a stat abdominal CT scan which showed an 18cm tumor in her abdomen. We were sent to Hershey Medical and admitted so she could see the oncologist first thing in the morning. He met with us that morning and took her for surgery a short time after. He removed the very large tumor, her ovary and fallopian tube as well as almost 4 liters of fluid and blood from her abdomen. She not only had this fluid in her abdomen, but it was also in her lungs. The vast size of the tumor was pushing fluid into her lungs, which was causing her shortness of breath. They removed 1.2 liters of fluid the following day of her surgery, due to hopes of removing the tumor would resolve her lung fluids. She is recovering well from her surgery. She’s been so much happier and just full of life. We returned to her oncologist on the December 29th, 2014 for her post-op visit. He was happy with how good she looked. Her lungs are nice and clear and color has finally returned to her face.

He however, gave us the worst news anyone could ever receive, especially about their own child. Her pathology tests all came back positive for cancer and that she will need to undergo chemo. As much of a shock as this is for her and our family, she is ready to fight this battle and beat cancer. She is having a very positive outlook on this whole experience and just wants to get better so she can move on with her life and be the happy teenager she is meant to be. Now her attitude and outlook is very positive, as she said, “She’s got this!”. Any support, financially or emotionally, along the way is greatly appreciated. Any funds raised will go directly towards Brittany’s care and needs during this tragic time in our lives

Lots of love,
Stephanie”

{Scene} has released a lovely ring set, the sales of which will be split 50/50 between the designer and the fundraiser. I popped over to the store today to make my own purchase -- though I am usually iffy of donations that are 50% or less, I am willing to make an exception in this case based on the circumstances. Even though 18 is legally an adult, as far as I'm concerned this poor girl is still a child and no child (nor their parents) should ever have to experience something such as this. "You have cancer." is a statement that no one ever wants to hear and it has to be just as bad for her parents and family. I have been very active with RFL in Second Life, and in college I was able to participate in the real life relays as well. For me, these kinds of situations are very personal.

At any rate! The ring, aptly called "Make A Wish" and pictured just below, is rather lovely:

Make A Wish is compatible with the Belleza Venus body (first 5 hand poses in the HUD), Slink Elegant/Elegant1/Casual/Relaxed hands, and the Maitreya Lara Body. It includes a fully loaded texture HUD so that you can color each individual ring to suit your mood, or outfit, or what have you.

The rings are even modify-ok so you can fit them to other hand shapes if you like... please remember to make a copy before changing the rings, and they are scripted to resize via a touch menu.

Current price of the item (as of this posting) is L$349.

If you would like to purchase the ring, it is available in-world here:

On the marketplace here:

And the GiveForward page for Brittany is located here, if you would like to donate directly:

Feel free to join the group for {Scene} updates as well, should the mood take you. :)
